STRANGE HAPPENINGS IN THE TRIANGE!

You may be familiar with the unexplained phenomenon of crop circles – but what about triangles?

Located in the heart of the Triangle, the staff of Sileni Estates arrived at the winery this morning to find a lush green triangle had appeared overnight within the iconic triangle that forms the centre of Sileni’s award winning grounds.

Surrounded by what appears to be dying brown grass, Chief Winemaker Grant Edmonds comments, “We are completely perplexed. We had certainly heard of crop circles but hadn’t heard of crop triangles. Perhaps our friends from outer space have tired of circles and developed an interest in good red wine from this triangle shaped sub region of Hawke’s Bay.”

The mystery triangle certainly has the team at Sileni scratching their heads and they would welcome feedback from any UFO watchers who can help to explain this puzzling phenomenon.

SILENI SPARKLING SERIES

Sileni Estates is delighted to announce the introduction of a trio of sparkling wines to our already impressive range.

The wines are a more traditional Sparkling Brut made from Chardonnay, an aromatic Sparkling Sauvignon Blanc and a delicious Sparkling Rose.  All three wines are made for current drinking and make great chilled aperitifs.  They are just off dry, as sparkling wines go, with subtle flavour and a clean, fresh finish, making them very food friendly as well.  We have also finished them with the Zork, a brilliant stopper that can be resealed and won't allow any of the negatives of cork taint or oxidation to ruin the moment.  Don't wait for a special occasion - celebrate with a bottle from our new Sparkling Series today!

RECENT ACCOLADES

Our Cellar Selection Chardonnay has had recent international success, being awarded 89 Points in the May edition of Wine Spectator Magazine in the USA.
'Bright & zippy, with lime and star fruit flavours that keep welling up as the finish lingers'.
89 Points, Harvey Steiman, Wine Spectator, USA, 31 May, 2010

A wine we are particularly proud of received a glowing review from Geoff Kelly at GeoffKellyWineReviews.co.nz.  'The Pacemaker' Cabernet Franc is from our Single Vineyard Series.

Ruby, carmine and velvet, midway in depth, on a par with Coleraine.  Is this the finest Cabernet Franc so far made in New Zealand?  I think so, for the winemaker has respected the fruit by not swamping it with oak, as most producers have done previously.  Instead the wondrous red rose florality and red berry fruits of cabernet franc dominate the bouquet.  This wine is pleasing on the palate, helped by seeming not quite bone dry (the actual figure is well within the range considered 'dry' in reds).  The quality of red fruits is superb, the oak subtle and potentially cedary, the wine truly an interim New Zealand benchmark for caberent franc, subtle and fine rather than big and clumsy / oaky.  It is not a big wine, more on the scale of the Cheval Blanc, but the physiological maturity, and quality of oaking to reveal rather than obscure the variety, is exciting.  It will be absolutely essential stock for education and training purposes, and lectures and tastings, quite apart from drinking.  This wine is a revelation.  Cellar 5 - 12 years.

Sileni Estates in China

With Sileni's growing export sales, more and more time is being spent on the road supporting both our established and burgeoning markets.  China is one such burgeoning market where the export potential for high quality New Zealand products, including wine, is huge.  New Zealand's recently signed free trade agreement with China has resulted in many New Zealand companies, including Sileni, looking to China as an area of real growth potential.

On a recent visit to Beijing and Shanghai Sileni's CEO Graeme Avery and recently appointed Business Development Manager, Nigel Avery, caught up with TVNZ's Owen Polland to share their views on the potential of the Chinese wine market. Click here to see the TV One News feature.
